Days before President Dina Boluarte was vacated, she had ruled out participating in the next elections, ensuring that until that moment she had not received an invitation from any party. Today, the situation is different for the former Minister of Education, Morgan Quero, who this Friday was announced as a pre-candidate for the presidency of the Republic by the Citizens for Change party, which was linked to Nicanor Boluarte.
The announcement was made public by Alberto Moreno, general secretary of this political group, reporting that the presidential plan will be completed by him and Melania Herrera. The list will be submitted to the vote of approval of the party delegates.
“The democratic plenary session of the delegates will exactly and definitively define the situation of the plan. It is a pre-candidacy, as its name indicates, that we democratically submit to the organic bodies, both statutory and those established by the National Elections Jury and the Onpe through the relevant directives,” said the leader.
Moreno also indicated that both Quero and he will also run for the Senate, while Herrera will try for a seat as a deputy.
The former minister is affiliated with Citizens for Change, although his registration on the National Election Jury portal dates back to March 2025, nine months after the deadline for presidential candidates to register in political groups, which would make his presidential candidacy impossible.
On October 3, Quero had assured that he would not participate in the elections and that he was fully dedicated to his work as a minister and “grateful for the trust of the premier and the president of the republic.”
