Elections 2026: 32 parties are still in the race, while 3 are at risk of being excluded

The presidential plans of the political parties are becoming ready for the Elections 2026. However, so far, only 32 lists have been registered by the Special Electoral Jury (JEE) of Lima Centro 1, while Peru First and Popular Renewal They will wait for the Plenary of the National Election Jury (JNE) decide your future this January 15. Meanwhile, Primero la Gente has just begun its registration process; Avanza País must also wait for the JNE to resolve the appeal presented.

As for the first three parties mentioned, objections were filed against their presidential candidates. In this regard, about Mario Vizcarra (Perú Primero) it was reported that he placed on his resume that, in 2005, he received a sentence for embezzlement and that, for this reason, he could not be a presidential candidate, as established by Law 30717. The JEE of Lima Centro 1 declared the three blemishes imposed founded and now the JNE must resolve the dilemma.

It is important to highlight that the decision made by the JNE Plenary will also influence the appeal that Perú Primero will present, after the JEE of Lima Centro 2 declared Mario Vizcarra’s candidacy for the Senate inadmissible.

As part of its right to defense, the party has pointed out that in different requests for protection, the Constitutional Court (TC) has ruled in favor of people who were rehabilitated after being sentenced and that they should not be prohibited from running for public office.

Regarding Rafael López Aliaga, two citizens claimed that, during the party’s internal elections, an election modality different from that contained in the party’s statutes had been used. In that sense, they requested that the primary elections be declared null and void and the candidacy of the presidential candidate be repealed.

However, the party assured that the election was carried out according to the law. Likewise, the electoral body supported this version and revealed that the citizens who are accused are not affiliated with the political organization and cannot request the annulment of the internal elections.

Country Advances

The citizen filed an appeal against the decision of the JEE of Lima Centro, who declared the accusation against José Williams unfounded. According to the complainant, the presidential candidate would have placed inaccurate information in his resume affidavit about his income from the public sector, as part of his work as a congressman, and his pensions from the Armed forces, Chavín de Huántar and Defenders of the Homeland.

However, the electoral body has declared the appeal presented inadmissible because proof of payment was not attached and said document is not authorized by a qualified lawyer.

After the errors noted have been corrected, the file will be sent to the JNE, who must resolve the appeal of the blemish within three calendar days.

This Wednesday, January 14, the legal representative of the political organization presented to the JEE of Lima Centro 1 the request for registration of the presidential formula led by Marisol Pérez Tello. She is accompanied by Raúl Molina Martínez and Manuel Ato del Avellanal Carrera, running for the first and second vice presidency, respectively.

The application for registration of the presidential formula will be evaluated by the JEE of Lima Centro 1. If errors are detected, the application will be declared inadmissible, giving the party a period of two calendar days to correct the observations and achieve its admission.

After the admission of the presidential formula, a three-day period opens during which any citizen can present objections or objections. If a fault is admitted, the JEE will evaluate it and resolve it within a maximum period of three days. The decision of the JEE can be appealed to the Plenary Session of the JNE.

If no blemishes are presented, the party will be formally registered to participate in the general elections scheduled for April 12, 2026.
