The president of National Election Jury (JNE), Jorge Salas Arenas, called on the voters to analyze the plans and capabilities of the candidates, ahead of the regional and municipal elections that will be held next Sunday, October 2.
Prior to the debate of candidates for mayor of Lima, which the JNE held last Sunday, September 25, Salas Arenas asserted that citizens throughout the country have a duty to analyze the government plans of the candidates in their respective constituencies.
“The community in Lima and throughout Peru has to analyze the government plansthe possibilities of executing the government plans and the electoral offers they contain. They have to look at the capabilities of the candidates”, he declared in dialogue with JNE TV.

In this sense, the head of the JNE stressed that, by the institution he leads, the result will be respected and that it will reflect democracy in the country.
“I am sure that this will be a proper election: reasoned, thought out by the voters. The Jury, for its part, will scrupulously respect the electoral result (…) let there be no doubt that the result will reflect that principle that is characteristic of democracy“, held.
The day before, the candidates for the Mayor’s Office of Lima presented and exchanged their main proposals one week before the elections.
This event brought together the candidates: Elizabeth Leon (Forehead of Hope), Omar Chehad (Alliance for Progress), George Forsyth (We are Peru), DAniel Urresti (We can Peru), Gonzalo Joy (Together for Peru), Rafael Lopez Aliaga (Popular Renewal), Yuri Castro (Free Peru) and Mary Soto (The only member on the list of Avanza País).
