Election of INE directors until February; Jucopo analyzes complaint against magistrates

All stages of the election process for four directors of the National Electoral Institute (INE) were suspended until February, when the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies can vote on an agreement that modifies the call in the points ordered by the magistrates of the Electoral Tribunal of Power of the Federation (TEPJF), who will be summoned to a meeting with the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) and against whom complaints are being analyzed for invasion of functions and prevaricate.

The call and the integration stage of the technical evaluation committee are suspended, as well as the registration of applicantswhich was scheduled to start next week, reported yesterday the president of the Board, Ignacio Mier, after a meeting in which the Chamber’s lawyer, Luis Genaro Vázquez Rodríguez, delivered an opinion in which he highlighted that refusing to abide by the sentence of December 23 could imply sanctions for the deputies that further violate the constitutional order.

Mier commented that the TEPJF ruling was due to the fact that the magistrates lent themselves to actions unrelated to justice, as they have done in all their resolutions. It is a systematic action and that is prevaricated”.

The Jucopo received the document from Vázquez Rodríguez that expands the legal opinion on the magistrates’ ruling and in which it is highlighted that the order to modify central points of the process was issued without granting the Chamber the right to a hearing and before the call will be published in the Official Journal of the Federation and therefore not yet entered into force.

On December 23, the superior chamber of the TEPJF issued a ruling on the protection of the political and electoral rights of the citizen, with mandatory measures for the Chamber, among others, to distinguish among the four lists of five candidates which one refers to the position of president of the INE; suppress the obligation of the technical committee for the evaluation of candidates to submit reports to Jucopo and incorporate the principle of gender equality in the lists.

The legal representative of the Chamber asked the parliamentary coordinators that, despite the irregularities of the resolution of the superior room of the CourtSince it is an unassailable sentence, it must be complied with.

Ignacio Mier reported that the legal route against the magistrates will be voted on next Monday at the Political Coordination Board based on the recommendations that, in this sense, the legal direction of the Chamber of Deputies presents to him.
