This designation will be put to a vote in plenary on Monday, December 23 and, if approved, Mayor Luján will take office on January 10, 2025.
In an extraordinary session scheduled for this Saturday, the commission’s deputies indicated that, after evaluating the profiles of Ulrich Richter, Anaid Valero and Bertha Alcalde, they determined that the latter meets the suitability requirements to serve as prosecutor of Mexico City. .
The Morenoist deputy, Alberto Martínez Urincho, president of the Administration and Justice Procurement commission, assured that although the two candidates; Ulrich Richter and Anaid Valero demonstrated their abilities to hold the position; in an analysis of the profiles, Mayor Luján was evaluated best.
“A weighing exercise should have been carried out that highlights a profile, each of the people who make up this commission, have expressed through the evaluation forms our opinion and the tendency of our appreciation that has notably favored Bertha María Alcalde Luján”
The opinion was approved by a majority of votes, except three by PAN deputies who voted against Mayor Luján.
What’s next?
The Congress of Mexico City will meet this Monday, December 23, so the 66 deputies that make up the legislature must vote for or against Bertha Alcalde Luján as the new head of the capital’s Prosecutor’s Office.
Mayor Luján needs 44 of the 66 votes of deputies to be a qualified majority and to be appointed to the position for a period of four years starting on January 10, 2025.
