The most recent case is that of the emecista politician Tomas Gonzalez Hernandezelected mayor of Mecayapan, also a victim of violence in the entity, who last July reported shots fired at the facade of his house by a group of unidentified men.
On November 13, a shooting attack was also recorded against the ranch of the elected mayor of MC in Jáltipan, Gildardo Maldonado Guzmánwho requested protection from the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) since September.
The attack occurred during the early hours of the morning and, although Maldonado Guzmán was not at the scene, neighbors reported that more than 20 shots were heard.
After the attacks registered in the last two months against elected mayors of MC, this Monday, the state coordinator of the orange party, Luis Carbonell, demanded justice: “We do not want another Manzo in Veracruz.”
Carbonell accused that both attacks against the elected Emecista mayors are a symptom of the “high insecurity” experienced in Veracruz.
The leader also pointed out that the MC candidate for mayor of Poza Rica, Emilio Olvera, suffered persecution and suspicious surveillance, in addition to denouncing alleged irregularities in the elections of Poza Rica and Papantla, where, despite initially winning, the courts took away their victories, he said.
But the violence did not only reach Emecista politicians. Pedro González Rodríguezformer candidate for mayor of San Andrés Tuxtla, who belonged to the defunct political party Todos por Veracruz, was murdered this Tuesday at his home in the Villa Comoapan community.
The events occurred during the early morning, when armed individuals broke into the house and shot him.
Last November 14th, Javier Octavio Reyes Romeroknown as “El Guile” and brother of the former federal representative for the Green Ecologist Catalina Reyes Romero, was also murdered during an ambush perpetrated by an armed group in the Hoja de Maíz neighborhood, in Tierra Blanca.
According to reports from local authorities, the attackers shot Reyes Romero outside his home and later took the body in the same truck in which they arrived.
On November 6, Lazaro Francisco Luria, Former PAN mayor of the municipality of Chinameca, was found dead after being kidnapped for several days.
The discovery of the body occurred on the morning of November 5 among corn fields, on the side of the highway that connects the municipalities of Oteapan with Zaragoza.
