The challenges that will be inherited
The members of the common candidacy “Together We Make History in Hidalgo” have indicated that they have confidence in the electoral institutions of the state for the development of the election and that the participation of citizens in their movement makes them have confidence in victory.
Javier Vázquez Calixto, commissioner of the Labor Party (PT) in Hidalgo, expresses that they will be vigilant and guarantors so that the electoral advisers do things well. Meanwhile, the state leader of Nueva Alianza Hidalgo, Sergio Hernández Hernández, comments that there is enthusiasm around his flag bearer.
“The citizen population, young people, men, women approach the candidate because they want to greet him (…) we are talking about a candidate who is connected with the electorate,” Hernández said.

But beyond the electoral enthusiasm, the winner of the election will have a challenge to improve the indicators left by the outgoing administration, mainly on issues of poverty, health, education, security, economic development and the environment.
In the case of poverty, the task should focus on public policies to reduce the situation of just over half of the inhabitants in the entity, since from 2018 to 2020, Hidalgo went from 49.9 to 50.8% of its population living in poverty, that is, they increased 53,400 hidalguenses in that condition. Total there are 1 million 570,600 poor people in the state, according to data from the National Council for the Evaluation of Social Development Policy (Coneval).
Coneval’s 2020 multidimensional poverty measurement reports that the entity from Hidalgo increased 12.5% in lack of access to health services, going from 14.4 to 26.9% from 2018 to 2020, that is, from 439,100 to 833,300 people with lack of medical care.
In addition, the next government will have to work on the issue of post-COVID care, since the virus left consequences in those who have suffered it, and increased chronic-degenerative diseases. The State Secretary of Health, Alejandro Benítez Herrera, has mentioned in his fortnightly conferences that there are patients with severe lung damage.
