An 86 -year -old patient, admitted from Guantanamo, was found lifeless at the Juan Bruno Zayas Hospital in Santiago de Cuba after “a fall” near a garbage area, which has unleashed controversy on social networks.
The incident occurred in the early hours of August 2, when the patient, whose identity was not officially revealed, was still found alive near his room on the 5th floor, next to a garbage container, the General Directorate of Health in Santiago de Cuba notified today.
Despite being immediately transferred to the emergency department and receiving intensive treatment, he died due to the injuries suffered, “which did not show signs of violence,” according to the statement.
The authorities attribute death to a trauma due to fall, which rules out homicide speculations disseminated in social networks.
Publications on Facebook claimed that the old man, identified there as Alberto Fajardo Videaux, presented a cranial fracture and mentioned an alleged “homicide with contusa weapon” as a secondary cause, according to unofficial hospital sources.
The Health Directorate condemned the dissemination of “false information” that has generated alarm, highlighting that the case is under legal medicine investigation, although the area lacked operational surveillance cameras and was poorly illuminated.
“Drillingly, False information related to this event has been disclosed in social networks, hence the essentials of offering official data in this regard, as long as the repudiation of those who unscrupulously is ratified, they cause alarm and misinformation states,” reads the note published by Cubadebate.
