The Salvadoran Football Federation (Fesfut) Tuesday sanctioned 12 players of the senior team, of which six received suspensions ranging from 30 to 60 days and the collection of fines for 10% of their salary for “irregular acts” in the concentration for a match with Peru.
The source pointed out, without specifying the type of punitive actions, that the acts took place in the United States in the framework of the friendly match that El Salvador lost to Peru last September.
Fesfut suspended Darwin Cerén, from the Houston Dynamo, for 60 days and imposed a fine equivalent to 10% of his salary in the Salvadoran team. Nelson Bonilla, Alexander Larín, Joaquín Rivas, Enrico Dueñas and Nelson Flores were also suspended for 30 days and received the same fine.
Bonilla plays for El Salvador’s Alianza and Larín is part of Guatemala’s Comunicaciones, while Rivas and Flores play for Miami FC and North Carolina of the USL in the United States, and Dueñas for Cartagena B of the Spanish Second Division.
The selected Narciso Orellana, Michelle Mercado, Cristian Gil, Ronald Gómez, Brayan Tamacas and Kevin Menjívar only received a “written public reprimand”. These players play in the Salvadoran league, with the exception of Gómez, who plays for Tulsa in the USL.
Zero tolerance for conduct that violates FIFA’s values
“Our organization reiterates its position of zero tolerance for conduct that violates the principles and values of FIFA, Concacaf and Fesfut, which must be followed by all participants in Salvadoran soccer,” the entity said.
The Salvadoran team will face a friendly against Nicaragua on November 16, a match in which those suspended could not participate.
