Representatives of the Governments of El Salvador and Nicaragua signed a letter of understanding on Monday to guarantee the food security of both nations through the supply of agricultural products, the Presidency reported in a statement.
The source explained that the interim Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Enrique Parada, met today with authorities from the Agricultural Ministry and the Institute for Agricultural Protection and Health (IPSA) of Nicaragua.
Parada indicated, according to the note, that both countries signed a letter of understanding with which they commit “to cooperate mutually in different aspects of interest to the agricultural sector.”
According to the official, these aspects will contribute to “facing the times that the entire world is currently facing in this crisis of scarcity in the inputs used for agricultural production, as well as for food.”

According to the Presidency, the Government of President Nayib Bukele seeks to “take comprehensive actions to face the global crisis and strengthen cooperation agreements that help guarantee the food security of salvadorans.”
El Salvador and Nicaragua will cooperate in areas related to agricultural and livestock development, such as food safety, research, innovation and technology transfers, the source added.
According to information from local media, El Salvador is positioned as the nation with the cheapest cost in the basic basket with an estimate of 212.55 dollars.
The Presidency recently reported that El Salvador remains the country with the lowest prices in Central America for fuels and basic basket products.
The price of a gallon of special and regular gasoline is between 4.19 dollars and 4.39 dollars, and the cost of a gallon of diesel is 4.14 dollars.
