El Garrahan produces medicines against AIDS for babies and distributes them throughout the country

The Pediatric Hospital makes its own production of medicines to supply babies with HIV AIDS up to 30 days.

The Juan Garrahan Pediatric Hospital produces its own medicines to supply babies with HIV AIDS up to 30 days that the pharmaceutical industry elaborates in a limited way to distribute to all the provinces by request of the Ministry of Health of the Nation.

Is about “master pharmaceutical formulas to guarantee the access of patients from different provinces, either for prophylaxis or treatment of the pathology,” the hospital said in a statement on the eve of the International Day to Fight AIDS.

In this sense, the hospital highlighted that the Pharmacy area worked on the production of 600 Nevirapine 12 mg capsules and Abacavir syrup, both antiretrovirals for hospital use of newborn babies up to 30 days old with HIV or exposed to the pathology that require it.

UNAIDS, andhe international body in charge of setting policies against this disease urged all countries to address the inequalities that are holding back progress to end AIDSso this year he proposed the slogan “Equality Now”.

The Garrahan”seeks to raise awareness about the inequalities that slow down progress in the fight against the disease”as improving the availability, quality and appropriateness of HIV treatment, testing and prevention “are key to ensuring that all people receive the care they need.”

“It is important to reform practices to eliminate the stigma and exclusion of people living with HIV, guarantee the exchange of technology that allows equal access to science and promote the necessary actions to address these issues”, highlighted the infectologist Solange Arazi.

This year, the National Congress sanctioned a new comprehensive care law for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, Tuberculosis and Sexually Transmitted Infections, that changes the biomedical paradigm of the previous regulations, sanctioned in 1990.

The new law, which has a gender and human rights approachseeks to guarantee the Comprehensive care free of charge and promotes the elimination of stigma and discrimination.

It also declares of public and national interest medicines and supplies for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure of these diseases, its national public production and universal, timely and free access.

“This is a great advance towards equality of resources and promotes the use of combined prevention measures as an important tool to achieve a decrease in new diagnoses,” explained Arazi.

Within these measures, antiretroviral treatment has a great impact since people living with HIV maintain their undetectable viral load for at least 6 months with this treatment, so they do not transmit the virus sexually to other people.
