El Espectador will become sports and Radio Oriental is transferred to a media group

El Espectador will become sports and Radio Oriental is transferred to a media group

The concentration of media in a few hands continues, which marks the loss of journalistic plurality. El Espectador from 2025 will be exclusively sports, lifting the news. And Radio Oriental, which belonged to the Catholic church, becomes under the responsibility of a group of radio stations.

Casa Zorrilla (radio group that brings together Carve, Radio Cero, Monte Carlo, and others) takes charge of the management of Radio Oriental. That will imply a change in programming, although it would maintain religious content.

El Espectador, leaves the general journalism and its contents will be sports. The radio belongs to the Magnolio group, whose majority owner is businessman Francisco de Posadas and minority shareholders are communicators Iñaki Abadie and Jorge Piñeyrúa. The conglomerate owns the Del Sol, El Espectador, Azul and Latina radio stations, and the 180 news portal, in addition to the Magnolio Sala space.

The changes in both radios will begin to be seen from 2025.
