According to the National Registry of Detentions, of the Ministry of Security, Félix Gastélum was arrested at 3:58 p.m. this Saturday on Lázaro Cárdenas Street for the possible crime of organized crime.
The arrest was carried out by elements of the Army and the National Guard, the Ministry of the Navy and the Ministry of Public Security, who deployed dozens of uniformed personnel in an air and ground operation, coordinated with the support of helicopters that flew over the area, the security cabinet reported in a joint statement.
According to the authorities, Félix Gastélum maintained control in the southeastern area of Culiacán, where he had a presence through criminal groups and was captured as a result of intelligence work.
“The detainee is identified as a financial operator and generator of violence in the entity,” reported the Security Secretariat.
He is married to Teresa Zambada Ortiz, one of the daughters of ‘Mayo’ Zambada, who was handed over to the US authorities in July 2024. He is currently facing a trial in that country and is accused of drug trafficking, organized crime, money laundering and carrying illegal firearms.
Since last September 9 and following Zambada’s arrest, Sinaloa has been experiencing a wave of violence due to clashes between two factions of the Sinaloa Cartel. The children of Zambada and the children of the other leader of the criminal group, Joaquín Guzmán Loera, also detained in the United States, known as ‘Los Chapitos’ and accused of allegedly kidnapping ‘Mayo’ and handing him over to the authorities of the United States, are fighting over the territory. At the time of his capture, ‘El Chavo Félix’ was described as a man approximately 1.88 meters tall, with a light complexion, medium complexion, black hair, beard and mustache.
