The Ministry of Culture (Mincul) reported that on July 9, following the report of a Sernanp team, the existence of several footprints very close to ‘The Paracas Chandeliera figure considered Cultural Patrimony of the Nation and that unfortunately ended with damages in several areas.
In images shared by the Mincul, it was possible to show that the damages caused are on the right side of the figure. The tracks ascend from the lower part (plain) to the top of the hill.
“It would be shoe footprints, of up to three people, who would have entered with a motor vehicle (truck) to the top of Cerro Colorado”specified the Ministry of Culture.
These footprints are easily visible from the sea and land. The inspection was carried out in conjunction with the Sernanp technical team, however, no person was found at the scene.
More damage to the Chandelier
However, on Sunday, July 10, a Sernanp team reported new events directly affecting the geoglyph. Faced with this situation, personnel from the Ica DDC and the Paracas Tourism Police appeared and verified two footsteps.
These go, according to images, from the bottom to the top, in a zigzagging way, entering the right arm, left arm and central part of the figure El Candelabro.
Actions
The DDC of Ica, with the support of the National Police of Peru, SERNANP, Official Tourist Guides and tourist boat personnel, have been taking all the necessary investigative actions, in order to identify those presumed responsible for the damage.
Likewise, it has been coordinating with the specialized team of the Management System for the Cultural Heritage of the Palpa and Nasca Territory, to carry out the restoration work “erasing these traces”, so that the cultural asset returns to its previous state.
Information panels will also be installed, with the aim of informing about the prohibition of entry to the area declared as Cultural Heritage of the Nation and one of the main legacies of our ancient and historical past.

Which was declared as Cultural Heritage of the Nation, on December 29, 2016, by Vice Ministerial Resolution No. 162-2016-VMPCIC-MC.
