At least eight Colombian policemen were assassinated this Friday in an ambush perpetrated in a rural area of the department of Huila.
“I strongly reject the attack with explosives that killed 8 police officers in San Luis, Huila. Solidarity with their families. These facts express a clear sabotage of total peace. I have asked the authorities to travel to the territory to take over the investigation”said President Gustavo Petro, through his Twitter account, after hearing the news.

For now, the authorities have not released information about those responsible for the incident. This is the most serious aggression against the security forces since Petro took office at the beginning of August.
(Lights and shadows of the peace agreement, five years later).
The president advances in the reactivation of the peace talks with the Eln guerrillas, interrupted in 2019 after an attack on a police school that left 22 dead in addition to the aggressor.
He has also proposed a ceasefire “multilateral” with the dissidents of the peace pact that disarmed the FARC and the armed drug trafficking groups, as part of a policy of “complete peace” to defuse the armed conflict of almost six decades.
Some dissident factions and drug gangs grouped around the powerful Clan del Golfo have been open to participating in the cessation, without reaching an agreement with the government.
