Eight people were run over after a carnival parade

The incident occurred this Sunday in the town of Independencia, 150 kilometers from the regional capital, Cochabamba.

At least eight people died, including a 10-year-old boy, and several were injured when they were hit by a vehicle after a carnival parade in central Bolivia, according to health authorities.

“We have eight deaths at this time that have reached us. There are obviously many wounded. I do not have the number at this time”said the doctor on duty at the local hospital, Bernabé Escalera.

The incident occurred this Sunday in the town of Independencia, 150 kilometers from the regional capital, Cochabamba, and some seriously injured people were transferred there, according to the AFP agency.

Among the dead are musicians and dancers who were leaving after performing in the parade and also a boy of about 10 years, the doctor added.

So far the reasons for the accident are unknown.
