In the village of Botatierra, rural area of the municipality of Páez in the east of the department of Cauca, the heavy rains of the last few hours caused a landslide that ended up burying eight members of the same family.
According to the information provided by the government secretariat of that municipality, the landslide completely destroyed the house, surprising people when they were sleeping.
Civil defense units, firefighters and members of the indigenous communities arrived at the scene of the tragedy and All eight bodies were recovered. The deceased are five minors and three adults.

“There were many difficulties to get to the place that is about six kilometers from the town of Páez. There are several landslides at different points of the road and we do not have machinery in the municipality”, he stated José Luis Collo, secretary of government of Páez.
The victims of the landslide were identified as Jairo Yonio Mulcué, 46, Edilma Musé Pacho, 43, Javier Ancizar Yonio, 18, and the minors Cristian Herney Yonio, 15, Adinson Janeider Yonio, 13, Jairo Yonio Musé, 10. , Heiner Aney Yonio, 6, and Breiner Adrián Yonio, 4 years old.
Others nearby houses were affected and work began to be able to provide aid to the families that have been affected.

“We also have problems for the mobility of people in the northern part of the municipality, which can affect voting day. At kilometer 5 we no longer have free lane, there are difficulties for vehicles to pass and there are several villages and shelters in which there are at least 25 polling stations”, pointed out the government secretary.
