Among the more than 3 thousand mayors who sought re-election in the 2024 municipal elections, 80.6% were successful in Sunday’s election (6), show the results released by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) after the count. While 590 were defeated by their opponents, 2,444 managed four more years.
Those re-elected represent 44.67% of the total number of mayoral candidates who won the 2024 election. The other 3,027 elected (55.33%) will begin new administrations in their cities in 2025.
The information was systematized by the technology team at Brazilian Communication Company (EBC) based on official TSE data, but the numbers can still be changed by court decisions. Furthermore, the total number of municipalities does not add up to 5,569 because there are cases in which the election will only be defined in the second round
In Roraima, the 10 mayors seeking re-election managed to defeat their opponents. In Alagoas, of the 55 who tried to remain in office, only one was not re-elected.
The state of São Paulo, on the other hand, had the lowest percentage of people re-elected, with 70.95%. This means that 259 of the 365 São Paulo mayors who sought re-election secured another four years in office.
State with the largest number of municipalities in the country, Minas Gerais also had the largest number of mayors seeking re-election: there were 455, of which 375 (82.41%) will govern their cities for another four years.
