The billing of the Punta Catalina Electric Generation Company (EGEPC) decreased US$51.6 million between January and September 2024, according to the “Performance Report of State Electrical Companies for the period January-September 2024”, from the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
The company billed US$431.8 million for energy sales, representing a variation of 10.7% compared to the same period in 2023, at an average sales price of 12.24 cents per kilowatt/hour.
This amount was the result of a billing of 3,528.5 gigawatts during the January-September 2024 period, for a decrease of 3.8 gigawatts.
Punta Catalina’s operating expenses were US$277 million, with a decrease of US$54.4 million, representing a variation of 16.4% less than the same period of the previous year.
The investments executed totaled US$3.5 million, an increase of US$1.8 million compared to the January-September 2023 period.
EGEPC sold the same amount of energy to each of the distributors: 1,176.2 gigawatts. Edenorte paid US$148.7 million and Edesur and Edeeste the same amount: US$141.5 million.
The generator’s personnel expenses were US$12.8 million, an increase of US$1.8 million. Expenses on non-personal services also increased, going from US$77.5 million in the January-September 2023 period to US$86.5 million in the same period of this year. The number of employees registered an increase of 14, going from 420 to 434 in the indicated period.
Electrical expert Bernardo Castellanos considered that Punta Catalina can be operated and managed efficiently with 200 employees.
