Efraín Alegre, president of the PLRA Martín Burt, former mayor of Asunción, Hugo Fleitas, governor of Cordillera, Sebastián Villarejo, deputy for the PPQ, Kattya González, deputy for the PEN, Esperanza Martínez, senator for the Guasu Front, Paraguayo Cubas, former senator of National Crusade, Hugo Portillo, a journalist, and Soledad Núñez, former Minister of Housing, are some of the opposition’s presidential candidates.
Five months before the presidential elections, analysts give their points of view on the candidates who are best profiled for the next elections.
GOROSTIAGA
Katia Gorostiaga, a political scientist, maintained that the best positioned electorally, taking into account the Coalition, is Efraín Alegre. However, the candidate who presents a much more interesting platform is Esperanza Martínez.
“Bearing in mind all the work you have already done in the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare. No one forgets that during his term of office, we achieved free healthcare and the Family Health Units (FHU) multiplied”, he stated.
Gorostiaga believes that Esperanza Martínez has a lot of political backing since many people believe in her ability and honesty.
“If we talk about potability, there are other people who can be described as honest. We can talk about Sebastián Villarejo, who is a fairly honest person and who believes in what he does. Although I am particularly against his political approaches. The honesty of Kattya González and Soledad Núñez can also be highlighted”, he pointed out.
For the analyst, the presidential badge of the Concertación should be Esperanza Martínez with Efraín Alegre.
Finally, he argued that with the use of the national register, surprises may come at the time of the election.
“If the padrón wasn’t open, I think it would be safe for Efraín to lead the plate. But now we can have surprises with the expansion of the voter list”, he maintained.
CASTIÑEIRA
Selva Castiñeira, political scientist, expressed for her part that up to this moment, within the bidding a candidate with favoritism has not come off. Although each one is working on their own, they are not yet separated from their peers.
“We see on the one hand that Soledad Núñez is working very hard on the political marketing side. What I don’t see are proselytizing campaigns. The only one is Efraín Alegre who is doing more campaigns in the interior of the country. You have to balance the digital part, air and earth. I see very little proselytizing campaign within the Concertación,” she stated.
He argued that there is a lot of dynamism and some clashes between the same members of the aforementioned opposition bloc.
“Kattya plans an alliance with Soledad Núñez and the ‘Hagamos’ party to face Efraín Alegre. But the unknown remains about who will be Efraín’s vice president. We wait for someone to come off and we can say that this will be the winner, ”he said.
For the analyst, the best candidates of the Coalition, today, are; Efraín Alegre and Soledad Núñez.
