Efforts to eliminate the US visa for Colombians advance

The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Francisco Coy, and the Colombian ambassador to the United States, Luis Guillermo Murillo, led the first technical meeting on the process of admission to the visa waiver program -Visa Waiver- of the United States.

The meeting was attended by the Director of Colombian MigrationCarlos Fernando García and representatives of the National Police, the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, the Civil Aeronautics, in addition to different dependencies of the Chancellery.

At the meeting, a review of the requirements of the admission program was carried out, in accordance with the five pillars established by the United States government: Counter Terrorism, Law Enforcement, Traveler Screening, Immigration Enforcement, and Travel/Identity Documents.

The meeting seeks to define negotiations with US authorities so that Colombians can travel to the US without the need to obtain a visa.

The foregoing, with the purpose of defining steps to be taken, both internally and with the US authorities, that will allow our citizens to travel to the United States for tourism or business purposes in the future without the need to obtain a visa.

This meeting is part of the policy of migration and human mobility of the National Government, which seeks free mobility, dignity, respect for the rights and social cohesion of Colombians who move abroad, as well as the purpose of further strengthening Colombia’s strategic bilateral relationship with the United States.
