The National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat) will have a new boss: Edward Tovar Mendoza. The official will replace Marilú Llerena Aybar in office.
Although the resolution is not yet published with its designation, it was known that the appointment of who today occupies the presidency of the Fiscal Court (TF) was supported by the Council of Ministers of the last Wednesday.
With this change, Sunat would have had three different presidents so far this year. As recalled, Víctor Mejía exercised functions until March 2025, and was replaced by Llerena, who was designated in the management of former Minister of Economy and Finance, José Salardi.
Who is the new head of the Sunat?
Edward Tovar Mendoza is a lawyer with Master’s Studies in Accounting with Taxation, Specialization in Constitutional Law and Political Science. It has a doctoral studies in Tax Law at the Complutense University of Madrid (Spain).
He was a member of the Commission for the Supervisory of Desleal Competition of INDECOPI, head of the Administrative Court of the Conasev, today Superintendence of the Securities Market, Head of the Central Office of Legal Advice of Essaliud and National Legal Mayor of the SUNAT.
Since June 1, it is unemployed as president of the Tax Court of the Superintendency, an organ that constitutes the last administrative instance at the national level in tax and customs matters.
