Unasev promotes actions at its Expo Prado stand to reduce road accidents
The National Road Safety Unit (UNASEV) opened its stand at the 119th International Livestock Exhibition, Agroindustrial and Commercial Exhibition, Expo Prado. The Minister of Transport and Public Works, José Luis Falero, said that the Government invested some 500,000,000 dollars in road safety. The interchanges, the incorporation of double lanes and radars prevent traffic accidents, he argued.
The opening ceremony of the stand was also attended by the Undersecretary of Transport and Public Works, Juan José Olaizola; the heads of UNASEV, Alejandro Draper, and of Mevir, Juan Pablo Delgado, and the general director of UTU, Juan Pereyra.
Falero said that the ministry he leads has made a push to improve infrastructure to provide greater security and address the scourge of traffic accidents, which he defined as the “silent pandemic.”
He said that the national road network needed an injection of public works to improve the roads and bridges. In this regard, he specified that some 500,000,000 dollars were invested in road safety.
The closure of open roundabouts, the use of interchanges at different levels, the incorporation of double lanes, the 74 kilometres of third lanes, and the devices to measure speed are measures that “save lives”, he said.
Draper, meanwhile, explained to Presidential Communication that the stand will feature a tour that will instruct visitors on how to avoid traffic accidents. Among the proposals, he explained, are educational activities for children; simulators, and information regarding the changes brought about by the return of the railroad, and on the use of the child restraint system.
