Teachers plan to carry out a national strike in all public education on June 15as announced on Wednesday by the general secretary of the National Federation of Secondary Education Teachers (Fenapes), José Olivera, at a press conference.
Protesters will gather at Torre Ejecutivafrom where they will raise their claims to the government of President Luis Lacalle Pou.
The motives that promote the mobilization -Olivera affirmed- are based on asking for answers to the budget “cut” of US$ 80 million between 2021 and 2022, that “has had an impact on learning conditions and the development of the educational system”.
“The consequence is the salary loss of 8% (of teachers, since the beginning of the period) and the reduction of jobssaid the leader.
“We want them to once and for all take charge of the issues that are transcendental for the life of the institutions, in such a sensitive and complex issue, such as security, as a result of the growing insecurity throughout the country,” he added.
Then, he specified his complaint with some examples: “The situation that exists to generate charges in the administrative area and, above all, in services is dramatic. (…) In this period the works were frozen and there are no new works planned with genuine budget. (…) There are works that are put into operation and do not have officials who can put into practice and test the operation of these institutions”.
The union coordinator understands that the main responsibility falls on the president of the Central Board of Directors (Code), Robert Silva, who, they say, “has been absent in cases of violence in high schools.” But between the claims of him too include problems related to insecurity, why They blame the Minister of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber.
“There are responsibilities that correspond behind closed doors to the president of the Codicen of the ANEP (National Administration of Public Education) and behind closed doors to the minister of the interior,” Olivera sentenced.
