In anticipation of the start of the next school year, which begins on the 26th of this month, more than 130,000 teachers in the public education system are being trained on curricular content and student assessments.
“This school year will begin in the strongest way in recent times,” said the Minister of Education, Ángel Hernández, referring to the 2024-2025 teaching period.
He said that a restructuring process of the teaching staff was also carried out, to relocate more than 16,000 teachers who were appointed to one school and were paid at another.
“It is a precision that allows us to know where the teachers are and what the teachers do,” said Hernandez.
He said that correcting the distortions in the payroll will prevent more than 5,000 teachers from being left without teaching loads.
Training process
The training process, which includes teachers from the 18 regional schools, Ministry of Educationis led by the Deputy Minister of Technical and Pedagogical Services, Ancell Scheker, and covers two weeks.
“It is a day with a very practical focus,” said the official.
“In the next two weeks, teachers will have the opportunity to delve deeper into curricular adaptation, assessment, planning and the use of innovative resources to promote learning,” he continued.

He explained that “our fundamental objective is to ensure that teachers enter the classroom with training that allows them to help students build knowledge and develop life skills.”
He said that together with the General Directorate of Guidance and Psychology, he is working on the motto: “Schools that learn by connecting their emotions.”
This initiative, said the Vice Minister, seeks to develop socio-emotional skills that foster peaceful and harmonious coexistence within educational centers.
The initial level
Elvira de la Cruz, director of the Initial Level of the Ministry of Education, highlighted the training of teachers in this first job of the academic structure of the Dominican educational system.
He indicated that, during their training, teachers at this level will learn about the “Power Bi” platform, to monitor and accompany their work.
He said that these educators “will analyze the importance of planning from a comprehensive perspective, as well as the use of educational resources to promote learning.”
“The primary level training day covers general and specific topics related to the educational work of teachers in classrooms, reported Norma Mena, director of this level,” insisted the government executive.
“This first week, the focus will be on planning, evaluation and grade registration, while the second week includes training in the areas of Spanish language, mathematics and natural sciences,” he continued.
