Educación deja sin efecto embargo ADP

He Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (Minerd) clarified that the request it made for the seizure of the accounts of the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP) was void and rejected that it is attacking the union’s election process, scheduled for this Wednesday, October 9 .

In this sense, he reminded teachers that they should not use their elections as an excuse for not teaching in educational centers in the public system.

Through a press release, the educational portfolio called on the union to act sensibly and sanely, and assured that the act of notification of constitutional action for protection that was filed against the ADP in Barahona, where the children have not been able to minimally comply with the school calendar.

«This was communicated, through a sheriff’s act, to the president of the section of the teachers’ union, Miguel Ángel Feliz, yesterday morning. As the court did not even hear the case, the ADP accounts have not been affected by any action by the ministry,” the text adds.

Minerd maintained that the consistency, systematicity and academic rigor required by the teaching-learning process cannot be jeopardized because then the results that society requires and expects are not seen.

“We are calling at ten in the morning all the teachers of regional 15 and 10 of Greater Santo Domingo to the Ministry of Education,” said Eduardo Hidalgo, president of the ADP.

He assured that the mobilizations will extend to the entire country after the elections conclude this Wednesday, the 9th of the current month.

He denounced at the national and international level that “this action by the government and the teachers interpret it as an attack on freedom of association in the Dominican Republic.”

“I reiterate to the teachers that the elections scheduled for this Wednesday, October 9, will be held and the most forceful response is to turn out massively, enthusiastically and determinedly to vote and thus strengthen our glorious ADP,” he said.

He called on the national teaching profession to remain firm and united around the Dominican Association of Teachers, which will remain firm and strengthened in the face of this government nonsense.

He said that month after month Minister Ángel Hernández stops deducting the ADP quota from thousands of teachers via the Minerd payroll.

He reproached the massive cancellations of teachers in various educational centers in the public sector, the lack of dialogue on the part of government authorities, and three days before elections they will seize the union’s account.

“This draws our attention strongly that the Government wants to attack the ADP and there is a policy with high officials, legislators, mayors who are putting pressure on the teachers, including the members of the gangs who are forcing them to resign,” he assured.

He added “it seems that the Government has no numbers and has decided to boycott the union elections; “The teachers en masse will vote this coming October 9.”

He pointed out “the teachers will say no at the polls to this government plan that seeks to weaken the only union we have left in the Dominican Republic; “We make a strong call to the teaching profession to remain united against the Government’s intentions.”

He stressed that the teachers will defeat at the polls the “unhealthy and macabre” plans of the Government that seek to divide the union members to take control of the ADP.

Barahona

The president of the ADP, Eduardo Hidalgo, attributed the indefinite stoppage of teaching in Barahona to a decision by the Teaching Assembly, as a measure to stop the cancellations of teachers.

“What is happening in Barahona, the only person responsible in Barahona today, the only person responsible is called Ángel Hernández, Minister of Education,” said the educator.

He invited Hernández to appear in “La Perla del Sur” to resolve the conflict by replacing those disengaged and committing to the ADP affiliates to find a solution to the problems faced by educational centers in that area.

The Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP) denounced on Friday that regional 01 of the Ministry of Education (Minerd) in Barahona seized its bank accounts, a situation that “endangers” the holding of the union’s elections next Wednesday, October 9.

In a statement, the National Executive Committee of the ADP described this action as “reckless and undemocratic” and that it aims to “stop the union’s elections just five days before the vote.

Explains suspension

The Ministry of Education explained that no State official or employee can simultaneously hold more than one paid position.

“Duplicity on the public payroll is prohibited and teachers who understand that there has been an error in their suspension can go to the Comptroller General of the Republic to clarify their situation by presenting the labor certification of their respective jobs,” the educational institution stated to the directors of the teaching profession.
