Education and Climate Justice are the theme of 6th National Children’s Conference for the Environmentwhich occurs from October 6 to 10, in the city of Luziânia (GO), in the surroundings of the Federal District. The opening of the event will be this Sunday (5) and will bring together hundreds of young people from all over Brazil.
The conference is a mobilization process that invites schools to develop pedagogical journeys through research and knowledge production, to confront climate change, engaging children and adolescents in the transformation of their territories and school communities.
“The main objective of the conference is to strengthen formative actions in the field of environmental education, so that schools are constituted as sustainable and resilient educating spaces,” explained the Ministry of Education (MEC).
Children and adolescents from 11 to 14 years may be delegates from the 6th to 9th grade of elementary school. Schools participate at least one class of those final years of elementary school.
This year’s event is part of the country’s preparation movement for the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which takes place next month in Belém (PA).
The Children’s Conference is organized by the Ministries of Education, Environment and Climate Change and Science, Technology and Innovation. Over five editions (2003-2018), the conference involved more than 20 million people, including children, adolescents, young people, teachers, education and the environment.
The opening program starts at 17h and will be launched the Socio -Environmental Guide Part of us: for an ecology of enchantmentby artist and educator Marcos Aurélio Querubim, creator of the Cultural Company Emcanta. The group will also present the show hug on the planet, which unites music, theater and poetry in a call to the preservation of the planet.
The event will be held at the Teacher Training Center – Av. Alfredo Nasser, Special Area No. 4, Luziânia (GO).
