Miami.- The Cuban troubadour Eduardo SosTo Laurencio died at dawn on Wednesday, February 12 in Guantanamo, at 52 years of age, after suffering a hemorrhagic stroke on February 3. The news fconfirmed by the Cuban Institute of Music (ICM).
Sosa was urgently admitted to the Dr. Antonio Agostinho Neto Teacher Hospital after presenting the cerebrovascular event while participating in the Guantanamo-Baracoa theatrical crusade. After an evaluation by the neurosurgery team, it was decided to intervene it surgically on Tuesday, February 4. Although the operation was considered technically successful, its state of health remained critical and under deep sedation until its death.
Born on April 18, 1972 in Tumba Seven, Mayarí above, in the province of Santiago de Cuba, Sosa began his way in music since the age of 12 within the movement of amateur artists. Later, during his studies at the Frank Country Pedagogical Institute, where he graduated in Musical Education, he highlighted in various events and competitions, which marked the beginning of his artistic career.
In 1997, together with Ernesto Rodríguez, he founded the Postrova duo, with which he recorded two albums under the Caribbean Productions and Emi Odeón Spain stamps. His music also arrived at Cuban cinema, forming part of the soundtrack of the film Amanda’s propheciesdirected by Pastor Vega.
As of 2003 he undertook his solo career, consolidating himself as one of the most important voices of the contemporary trova in Cuba. He published four albums and in 2017 he received the Cubadisco Prize for his album As if they were mineedited by the Colibrí record house. Among his most emblematic themes are “Mountain Mañanitas”, “Restoño del Monte”, “The Son of Contramaestre” and “I like it, Compay”.
His artistic career has been marked by his support for the political system of the island and his role as a member of Parliament since 2023.
