Brazilian paraclimbing concluded its participation in the Laval stage, in France, of the sport’s World Cup with two podiums. This Sunday (26), the Eduardo Schaus from Paraná secured the bronze medal in the AU2 class dispute (amputee athletes or those with reduced upper limb function).
In the final, which brought together the four best athletes from Saturday’s qualifier (25), Eduardo – who was born without his right hand – climbed 40 of the wall holds. The Brazilian was behind the Norwegian Isak Ripman (45 holds) and the German Kevin Bartke, who reached the top. It was the first medal for the Paraná native, who was runner-up in the world this year, in the World Cup stages.
On Saturday, the Brazil celebrated Marina Dias’ victory in the RP3 class final (athletes with limitations in reach, strength and power). It was the São Paulo native’s first gold medal at this year’s World Cup, after third places in Salt Lake City, in the United States, and Innsbruck, in Austria.
Paraclimbing debuts as a Paralympic sport at the Los Angeles Games, in the United States. Not all classes, however, are covered. As announced by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) in June, Marina’s, for example, will not compete in 2028, unlike Eduardo’s. In total, there will be eight categories, four per gender, bringing together athletes with visual impairments, upper and lower limbs, reach and power.
