Eduardo Salhuana on expansion of the Reinfo: "It’s a pragmatic decision"

.

The president of Congress, Eduardo Salhuanaconsidered this Monday that the six-month extension of the Comprehensive Mining Formalization Registry (REINFO), is a “pragmatic and realistic decision of the Congress of the Republic”. In that sense, he highlighted that the proposal obtained the vote of 84 parliamentarians.

Salhuana indicated that this period should be “a space in which Congress has to promote a definitive solution.”

“What there should not be is more expansions, but we should address the underlying problems. First, the issue of financing; second, the issue of commercialization; third, the occupation of areas of small miners that correspond to third-party concessions,” he pointed out.

The head of Parliament highlighted that the six-month formalization period was also included in the Mape Law project presented by former minister Rómulo Mucho. For the legislator, that period “was reasonable.”

“Yes, we have to guarantee that we establish definitive working groups so that there are no more extensions and there is a resolution that puts an end to this situation of informality,” he said.

On the other hand, he welcomed the appointment of Jorge Montero Cornejo as the new Minister of Energy and Mines, whom he described as “a sector professional” and “a Peruvian committed to the country.”

“Here in Congress we will be willing to collaborate on initiatives that strengthen such an important sector,” he said.
