Salhuana said the initiative came from the presidency of Congress to suspend the pension granted to convicted former president Fujimori.
The President of Congress, Eduardo Salhuana, reported that he will propose the suspension of the Life pension for Alberto Fujimori for 15,600 soles, after the Parliament approves the former dictator’s request. “From the presidency of the Congress of the Republic, we have made the decision to propose to the Board of Directors a proposal to begin a consultation phase regarding the granting of a pension to former President Fujimori,” he said.
At the meeting, which will take place the day after tomorrow, Congressman Salhuana said that the Board of Directors will begin a series of consultations with different specialized entities, and during this, the granting of the pension will be suspended for the former president. “We consider, first, that this new management of the Congress must be extremely receptive to the opinion of the citizens, to the opinion of the various political sectors and to the opinion of the experts who have opposed it through their various points of view.”
He also mentioned that Law 26519which was the legal basis for granting this pension, It is a rule that is not so clear and has gaps which can generate various interpretations. “We have more than 10 bills that can help us to see this issue, and while this happens we will propose to the Board of Directors that the pension be suspended administratively granted to Alberto Fujimori,” added the president of Congress.
