The Minister of Justice, Eduardo Montealegre, resigned from his position “irrevocable”. The decision came a day after he himself presented a bill to convene a national constituent assembly.

In the letter he launched a strong questioning of justice for the acquittal this week of former president Álvaro Uribe.

“I present to you, as of today, an “irrevocable” resignation from my position as Minister of Justice and Law. A single reason motivates my retirement: the deep indignation at the prevarication incurred by the Bogotá Court in acquitting a war criminal, a corrupt person: Álvaro Uribe Vélez”says the letter sent to President Petro.
“As a victim of Uribe, I must resume the exercise of my rights to prevent his acts from going unpunished. This implies that it is my duty to go to international courts to demand an end to his systematic violence against humble and working people.”he added.

In the letter he also thanked President Petro for his trust in appointing him as minister and said that he counts on his collaboration to continue the transformation of Colombia.
