Eduardo Estrella reveals rain tunnel project on Luperón Avenue

Eduardo Estrella revela proyecto de túnel pluvial en av Luperón

Santo DOmingo.- The Government will begin a major storm drainage work on Luperón Avenue to reduce the historic floods that affect the southwest of the National District during intense rains.

According to what was explained by the Minister of Public Works, Eduardo Estrelladuring La Semanal with the press, the project contemplates a tunnel of almost three kilometers that will connect with the existing system in front of the Ministry of Environmentpassing under the Plaza de la Bandera and joining key avenues such as Bolívar Extension, Anacaona, Rómulo Betancourt and the Herrera free zone.

The work, with a budget of more than 40 million dollars and an estimated duration of 18 months, will use a tunnel boring machine similar to that of the Metro, avoiding impacts to traffic.

It will be coordinated with the CAASD and the National District City Council to guarantee integration into the general drainage system.

President Luis Abinader highlighted its positive impact on the city and reiterated the Government’s commitment to structural solutions to meteorological phenomena.
