Venezuela’s opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia urged the Armed Forces this Sunday to overcome “the challenges” facing the country and defend popular sovereignty which – he assures – was evident in the presidential elections, whose victory is claimed by the anti-Chavista, compared to the official result that gave victory to Nicolás Maduro.
González Urrutia sent the message through the social network constitutional mandate.

“According to the 1999 Constitution, promoted by Hugo Chávez Frías, On January 10, by the sovereign will of the Venezuelan people, I must assume the role of commander in chiefwith the responsibility of protecting our families and directing our efforts toward a future of well-being and prosperity for all Venezuelans,” he said, claiming his victory.
To the members of the The Armed Forces expressed confidence that “together” they will overcome “the challenges” they face “as an institution and as a nation.”in these moments, which he described as “defining for the country.”
“Our National Armed Forces are called to be a guarantee of sovereignty and respect for the popular will. It is our duty to act with honor, merit and conscience, guided by the values that unite us with a fundamental institution of the Republic,” he reiterated.
The opposition leader insisted that “it is necessary to put an end to a leadership that has distorted the fundamental and moral principles” of the Armed Forces, among which – he assured – there are “many” members who “have expressed their desire for change along with the rest of Venezuelans, expressing it by voting against that leadership that does not represent a guarantee of stability or a future for Venezuela.”
He added that “it is time to reaffirm” the “commitment to the homeland”, so – he said – starting January 10 we must “act with determination and unity to protect Venezuela.”
He reminded them that the mission is “to restore the popular sovereignty manifested in the vote, to guarantee the peace and stability” of the nation”, so the “duty” is to adhere to “the legal framework established in the current Constitution.”
In this way, he noted, “actions will be oriented towards the protection of the Venezuelan family in a dignified and honorable manner, without extortion or manipulation.”

“My commitment is to you and to the people of Venezuela. Forward with honor and courage. Glory to the brave people!” concluded González Urrutia, who is in the United States where this Monday he will meet with the president, Joe Biden, after meeting in Argentina with President Javier Milei on Saturday and, later, in Uruguay, with President Luis Lacalle Pou, in addition to holding a videoconference with the Paraguayan head of state, Santiago Peña.
