Edmundo González: There are two days left to begin the reconstruction of Venezuela

Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado asked Venezuelans who support Edmundo Gonzalez’s candidacy to go out to vote very early on July 28 and get active to defend the vote and, at the end of the day, stay to count “paper by paper”; the people responded in unison: “Yes, we can; yes, we can”

The presidential candidate for the Unitary Platform, Edmundo González, closed his electoral campaign with a caravan that toured the streets of the Las Mercedes neighborhood, in the Baruta municipality of Caracas. The streets were much more crowded than at the start of the campaign on July 4 and from the vicinity of the Alfredo Sadel plaza, the opposition candidate stated: “There are two days left to begin the institutional reconstruction of Venezuela.”

The participants began arriving at the venue before 4:00 pm on Thursday, July 25, and waited for the presence and words of their leaders until around 8:00 pm; while they waited, they shouted for “freedom” and “democracy” for the country.

“On that day we will vote for the return of our children to their homeland and for us to begin the path of reconciliation,” said González, reiterating that if he is elected President next Sunday, July 28, he will have a “government of inclusion.” He insisted that these elections will be the most important the country has ever had.

“We are ready to vote and to win,” said opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, while around her, flash lights on cell phones were on to record statements that were barely heard by the crowd due to the lack of sound equipment suitable for this type of event. However, that did not prevent those present from showing their great happiness in accompanying the opposition and remaining silent when they spoke, then, on their own initiative, they sang the national anthem.

“Yes we can” was another of the slogans that resounded most on July 25, while hundreds of tricolor flags were waved.

To the young men and women, to the witnesses, to those who will collaborate with the mobilization on election day, to those who make up the comanditos, Machado said: “You are the heroes of this process. We trust in you.”

“I came to march because I want freedom for my country,” said a woman in her 50s who came to the demonstration with her husband, but who preferred to remain anonymous.

María Corina Machado indicated that she and Edmundo González asked Delsa Solórzano, Perkins Rocha and Juan Carlos Caldera to assume the “highly responsible task of national witnesses before the electoral board” and affirmed that they will be the voice of the Unitary Platform before the National Electoral Council (CNE).

He also asked that “everyone, from very early on, get active to defend the vote” so that when the voting tables close after the presidential election day, “paper by paper” is counted. The people responded by shouting: “Yes, we can; yes, we can.”
