Edmundo González condemned Nicolás Maduro’s intention to withdraw Leopoldo López’s nationality and exposed the situation of thousands of Venezuelans who migrated and are unable to obtain identity documents, both ID cards and passports.
Edmundo González condemned the intention of Nicolás Maduro to withdraw Leopoldo López’s nationality for supposedly supporting international interventions in the country. Through a post on his X account, González pointed out: “Depriving a citizen of his nationality for political reasons violates the most basic principles of international law.”
He also maintained that the threat against the founder of Voluntad Popular is part of a practice of “authoritarian regimes” in the region.
The Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, was the one who reported that Maduro sent a petition to the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) to remove Leopoldo López’s nationality. He also said that his passport would be requested to be removed; However, the opponent does not have that document because he was a political prisoner who also fled the country.

During his message of support for López, Edmundo González exposed the situation of millions of Venezuelans who migrated and are unable to obtain their identity documents, both passports and identity cards. Likewise, he indicated that the obstacles to this type of procedure have left thousands of children, children of Venezuelans, in a situation of statelessness.
“Solidarity with Leopoldo and with every Venezuelan victim,” wrote Edmundo González, who is exiled in Spain, after he had to flee for demanding the disaggregated results of the 2024 presidential elections, which the opposition claims he won.
