Opposition leader Edmundo González spoke this Friday about the contradictory information circulating about the identities of the political prisoners who are supposed to be released. After the announcement made more than 24 hours ago by Jorge Rodríguez, head of the National Assembly, only around 10 released citizens have been confirmed.
“We don’t want rumors or versions,” González said in a video in which he appears next to a photograph of his son-in-law. Rafael Tudares, arrested on January 7, 2025, three days before Nicolás Maduro was sworn in for a third term.
Faced with rumors of his possible release, the president-elect stated: “This moment calls for temperance and firmness, “not to silence what we feel, but to take care of the families.”
“We want to be with our loved ones, hug each other and live that moment when it comes,” he added.
He stated that he is deeply happy to see the embrace of those who have already been able to meet again, as was the case of Enrique Márquez, the only former candidate for the 2024 presidential elections who – in addition to Edmundo González – denounced irregularities of the National Electoral Council.
Among those released are also Biagio Pilieri and Rocío San Miguel.
González expressed his closeness to those who continue waiting. “My hug is with every family waiting for a call,” he said.
“I continue fighting and requesting his freedom”
Mariana González de Tudares, wife of Rafael Tudares, reported this Friday that She continues without knowing the whereabouts or legal status of her husband, after visiting several detention centers in an attempt to locate him.
In a message published in X, he explained that during the morning he visited different prison facilities and that decided to return to the Rodeo I detention center, after court authorities previously indicated to her that her husband would allegedly be held there.
However, he noted that In Rodeo I the authorities have repeatedly refused to offer him information about the condition, status or exact location of Tudares Bracho.
Despite this, he stated that he will maintain his search and continue demanding his release.
“I proceed and am acting from my convictions, principles and values,” expressed González, who assured that her actions are guided by the defense of peace, justice and freedom, not only for her husband, but for all people detained for political reasons.
