Edesur power outages have the inhabitants of Barahona on the verge of despair

Los apagones de Edesur tienen al borde de la desesperación a los habitantes de Barahona

Barahona.- The constant and prolonged blackouts of the Edesur Company They keep residents in a state of unrest in more than 40 sectors and neighborhoods of this city.

When the power outage occurs at night, community members lock themselves in their homes for fear of being robbed or attacked by criminals.

Since last week until now, people have been protesting in the streets of their neighborhoods and sectors, which include burning tires, scattering tree branches, garbage and waste on public roads in protest. against the blackouts.

Protests in different sectors

These protests are taking place in the neighborhoods and sectors of Cambodia, Savica, La Raqueta, May 30, Enriquillo, El Puente, Casandra, La Playa, Las Delicias, Solares de Milton, Alfa, Don Bosco, Pueblo, Palmarito, Las Flores, Pueblo Nuevo, among others, as well as in the municipal district of Villa Central.

A few days ago, the neighborhood leader of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) and councilman Rodolfo Gòmez (Gollòn), announced that he would call for a peaceful protest next Monday. This will be in front of the Edesur offices, located in the entrance to this city.

“We can’t sleep at night because of the intense heat in this city. Also, things get complicated because our fans don’t work due to the lack of electricity,” several citizens agreed.

This Friday the light disappeared between 7:30 and 8:00 at night and returned at 9:30 in the morning this Saturday and then went out again shortly after. “It is a situation that is becoming more alarming every day,” said Mr. Héctor Bienvenido Cuevas Fèliz.

Opinions of Edesur

Qualified people who follow this situation closely point out that Edesur technicians carry out maintenance work. This is done 365 days a year and there is no improvement in the service. “The way things are going, it seems that the electric power service in this area will never be made more efficient,” they commented.

However, these people say that the lack of electricity service depends directly on the authorities of Edesur in Santo Domingo. They say that the managers and technicians of Edesur in this area should not be blamed.

“We must be clear that this anomaly depends directly on Santo Domingo and not on any Edesur authority in this area,” they concluded.
