EDESUR illuminates the boardwalk of Santo Domingo, in a third stage

EDESUR ilumina malecón de Santo Domingo, en una tercera etapa

Santo Domingo.- The Edesur Dominicana company illuminated the boardwalk of Santo Domingo, in a third stage, which now extends from Núñez de Cáceres Avenue to the Syrian-Lebanese-Palestinian Club.

It included the Food Truck area, which has become a space for recreation, which also represents a boost for merchants, hundreds of customers and families who come to the place.

According to the president of the Maleconcito Food Truck Association, “visitors and customers are around 2,000 people, and now the number will increase due to the lighting, since this had been turned off for nine years.”

In total, Edesur has so far placed more than 300 LED lights and 125 new concrete light poles, in almost nine kilometers of the 30 de Mayo Highway.

The president of the Caribbean Sea neighborhood council, César Balvi, said that the boardwalk had been dark for 7 years, and greeted the works of Edesur on behalf of the more than 20 communities that make up the 30 de Mayo avenue.

Meanwhile, Milton Morrison, general director of the electricity distributor, said that Edesur’s public lighting initiative seeks to contribute to citizen security through the “My safe country” program promoted by the Presidency of the Republic through the Ministry of the Interior and Policeman.

He also recalled that public lighting is the responsibility of the mayor’s offices; therefore, the action is due to a share of social responsibility on the part of the company, as a collaboration with the mayor’s offices.

Previous stages of lighting

The first stage of lighting for Edesur Dominicana comprised from the Luperón overpass, on the 30 de Mayo highway, to the Kilometer 12 toll; while the second, from the elevated of Avenida Luperón to Núñez de Cáceres.

In principle, the company had announced that the works would only be from the Kilometer 12 toll, to Núñez de Cáceres Avenue; however, it extended them to the Syrian-Lebanese-Palestinian Club.

Complexity and materials for the works

Edesur’s operations are carried out with a specialized brigade of 60-foot bucket trucks, due to the height of the public lighting poles.

They have included the distribution of more than 8,000 meters of power lines in eight kilometers of highway, seven transformers, installation of 125 new poles and more than 300 new low-consumption LED lights, to contribute to the environment; as well as the standardization of other existing ones.
