The blackouts They are part of the life of Dominicans. The electricity supply by the three public distribution companies: Edeeste, Edenorte and Edesuralthough with improvements in recent decades, continues to present intermittency.
The cuts in the energy service are recorded in the concession area of the three companies, with periods of duration that ranged between 14 and 17 hours, on average per customer during the past. Novemberaccording to the records of the Superintendence of Electricity (SIE).
In the eleventh month of last year, the last available period of the report “Quality Indicators of the electrical service“, it is seen that the users of the Eastern Electricity Distribution Company were the ones that suffered the longest interruption time, with an average of 17.65 hours.

However, the monthly average of the duration of interruptions in the electrical service by the EDEs last November presented an improvement, in relation to those registered in January 2025, despite the fact that, between January and November of last year, the three EDEs registered a service availability of 98%, a reduction of 0.6 percentage points in relation to the 98.6% registered in the same period of 2024.
In the case of Edeestethe 17.65 hours of November represented an advance, compared to that registered in January of last year, when it was 33.66 hoursa reduction of 16.01 hours, according to the document of the SIE.
This was followed Edesurwhich recorded 17.01 hours of monthly average in the duration of its cuts electrical service during the eleventh month of 2025. In the case of that distributor, in January its average interruptions were 40.06 hoursfor a difference of 23.05.
Meanwhile, for customers of Edenorteinterruptions in November of 2025 were 2:72 p.m.reflecting a slight improvement compared to 3:22 p.m. in January.
In the middle of November last year, the country suffered a general blackout product that originated from a human error after manual disconnection of an energized line at the 138 kilovolt substation of San Pedro de Macoris.
The frequency
In the case of the Interruption Frequency Index (Saifi), which measures the number of times the supply is interrupted with respect to the total number of clients, Edenorte was the one that presented the largest amount in November of 2025, with 17.98 suspensions.
This was the only distributor that did not improve this indicator, when compared to the one recorded in January of last year, when the figure was at 13.11 interruptions.
The users of that distributor were followed by those of Edesurwhich averaged 16.31 suspensions in November past while those of Edeeste 11.90, both managing to improve compared to January, the month in which they registered 19.98 and 18.98 interruptions, respectively.
