Through a statement, they expressed their solidarity with the Nicaraguan faith communities and demanded that freedom of worship and opinion be respected.
The religious leaders grouped in the Ecumenical Committee of Panama (COEPA) and the Interreligious Committee of Panama (COIPA), expressed this Thursday their deep concern about the recent actions against the Catholic Church of Nicaragua by the government authorities of said country that violate religious freedom.
Through a statement, they expressed their solidarity with the Nicaraguan faith communities and demanded that freedom of worship and opinion be respected and called for the release of detained religious and lay leaders.
“We add our voice to that of other regional and world actors, and we call for the establishment of a dialogue in Nicaragua to restore peace and guarantee respect for human rights in the sister country,” mentions part of the letter .
The Ecumenical and Interreligious Committee of Panama remains in prayer and raising its prayers in favor of the Nicaraguan people and their religious leaders.
