Ecuador is in “maximum alert” after the publication of a military report that warns of possible attacks against the newly re -elected President Daniel Noboa and members of the Government. In a country where the candidate Luisa González has not yet recognized her defeat, many fear a hardening of the regime
Ecuador remains traumatized by the murder, in August 2023, by presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio at the hands of Colombian hitmen. Therefore, the activation of all the security protocols of the Armed Forces, the Police and the intelligence services worry the Ecuadorians.
Concern in the opposition
It is the case of the security guard Joselo Gordon. He would like to see more tangible evidence than a report not released: «Ecuadorians live in panic, fear of leaving, we do not live safely. That is a lie, that has already come like a show, a theater. Drug trafficking has invaded all Ecuador, ”he laments.
According to the political analyst Gustavo Isch, this potential threat could be used to gag an opposition correista already weakened by his recent electoral defeat: «The ranists and the opposition, there could be some that were not correist. To press them, take away their public presence, to control the opposition, ”he explains.
A list of politicians and journalists circulated on social networks, often of the opposition, which should be subject to border controls. Disinformation? Perhaps, but Diego Borja’s last misadventures concern many opponents: the candidate Correista to the vice presidency had to precipitously abandon the country, taking refuge in Colombia.
Mexico rejects any involvement
The authorities have attributed the alleged attempt to murder to “criminal organizations associated with political entities that lost the elections.” A message from the Armed Forces warned about the alleged “transfer of hitmen from Mexico and other countries to Ecuador, in order to carry out terrorist attacks against the President of the Republic.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico (SRE) denied “sharply” this Saturday the link with “alleged criminal acts” in Ecuador. “Our country is guided and will always be guided under the principle of non -intervention,” said the Foreign Ministry in a statement.
