The DT of Ecuador, Gustavo Alfaro, expressed this Saturday that his team is “very calm” in the face of Chile’s complaint about an alleged false nationality of the defender Byron Castillo, a fact for which FIFA opened a disciplinary procedure.
“We are very calm because we know how we did things,” Alfaro said in Chicago, United States, where his squad will play a friendly with Mexico this Sunday, with a view to Qatar-2022.
The Argentine strategist, by the way, included Castillo on the payroll for the first cycle of World Cup preparation that the Tri develops in North America.
“We are focused on working and preparing the team for the World Cup because we know that with all rights we won the classification where we have to win it, on the field, and we won it as we should have won it”, he emphasized.
Three weeks ago, FIFA opened a disciplinary procedure in the face of Chile’s complaint against Ecuador for the “use of a false birth certificate, false declaration of age and false nationality” of Castillo, who according to the accusation would have been born in Colombia.
If FIFA accepts the complaint, Ecuador could lose the points from the games in which Castillo played in the South American qualifying round, in which he finished fourth and won the region’s last direct place in the World Cup, and his place would go to Chile, which finished seventh.
