Guayas and Pichincha are the provinces that accumulated the most number of infections in one day, still being the areas most affected by the pandemic.
In all of Ecuador, on Friday, December 24, 2021, a total of 1,246 new positive cases for Covid-19, adding a total of 541,368 during the pandemic, according to the daily epidemiological report released by the Ministry of Public Health.
The death toll rose to 33,647, six more than in previous days, between the 23,828 confirmed by Covid-19 and the 9,819 probable.
By provinces
To date, the province of Pichincha is the one that accumulates the highest number of contagion cases, with 200,507 positives, which means 271 new ones compared to the record of December 23, 2021; followed by Guayas, with Guayaquil at the head, with 76,017, after adding 453, in 24 hours.
Following on the list, by number of positive cases, the provinces of Manabí (36,332), Azuay (29,804), El Oro (25,366), Loja (18,781), Imbabura (18,100), Tungurahua (16,497), Los Ríos (13,659), Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas (13,015) and Cotopaxi (12,635).
Regarding the situation in each of the cities, The report specifies that Quito continues to be the worst hit by the pandemic, with 185,470 infections (252 more than the previous day), followed by Guayaquil with 52,878 (384 additional).
Ecuador launched last January a vaccination plan against Covid-19, with which more than 27.1 million have been applied of doses between first, second and booster.
The Government stated, for these December festivities, Covid-19 vaccination is mandatory for the population over 5 years of age, as a preventive measure against a possible worsening of the situation due to the omicron variant and the increase in infections in recent weeks.
The Ecuadorian authorities have only exempted “persons who present any duly certified medical condition or contraindication ».
The Ministry of Public Health notified that it will not apply direct sanctions for those not vaccinated, but that these citizens only they will be limited in access to all kinds of events, for not having the complete guideline certificate, as it happens in other countries.
The National Emergency Operations Committee (COE), the entity in charge of managing and issuing guidelines related to treatment of the pandemic, also announced the obligation to present the vaccination certificate with a complete schedule for people over 12 years of age who want to access non-essential activities.
This December 25, the Ministry assured that Entities that do not require the vaccination certificate will be sanctioned against Covid-19, before allowing people to enter. (EFE)
