The president of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities, Marlon Vargas, requested respect for the lives of those who participate in the national strike against several decisions of the Noboa government, including the elimination of diesel subsidy
The president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, said Monday, September 22 that he will not yield to those who, he said, want to “destabilize” the country, which faces the threat of a national strike led by the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities (CONAIE) against the rise of diesel.
“We are now fighting a battle against sectarianism, against people who want to destabilize Ecuador and we will not give in a millimeter,” Noboa said during a public act in the province of Cotopaxi, in the Andean center of the country.
In that province, indigenous people manifest, among other reasons, against the elimination of diesel subsidy, decreed on September 12, although there was also a march in favor of the government.
The Head of State said that he will not leave Cotopaxi, whose capital (Latacunga), temporarily transferred the headquarters of the Executive shortly after eliminating diesel subsidy, what indigenous leaders considered as a provocation as the sector is an area of high indigenous concentration.
“I am not going from here either, I like a lot and people are very happy, and we are not afraid to go out, we are not afraid to face any threat because we have the peace of mind that we won here,” he said in reference to the province where he had a high vote in the elections in which he won re -election until 2029.
Noboa stressed that the people of Cotopaxi gave him “his vote and his trust” and maintained his work agenda in the province, where there is a strong military presence.

Respect for life
The president of the Conaie, Marlon Vargas, asked on Monday respecting the life of those who participate in the national strike against several decisions of the Noboa government, including the elimination of diesel subsidy.
«Today we begin national strike attached to the right to resistance recognized by the Constitution. It is not an easy decision, but the Government has pushed us to these measures with the rise of diesel, the crisis in health and education and the lack of respect for our rights and territories, ”he said in a video on social networks.
By that means, he demanded Noboa “respect for life and the rights” of his people.
«Our demands are legitimate, we are not criminals or terrorists. We are a people who work every day to carry out the country. In his hands is listening and answering the people, ”he added, considering that the response to the demands of the protesters” cannot be repression, violence or persecution. “
Last Thursday, Noboa warned that he will report “terrorism” to those who press farmers to restrict their right to water if they refuse to protest against their government and that, if so, they would be imprisoned for 30 years.
