The president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboaand his counterpart from the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinadermet this Wednesday in Dubai, where they spoke about the possible negotiation of a trade agreementreported the Ecuadorian Presidency.
The appointment took place within the framework of the agenda that both meet representatives in the World Government Summit (WGS, in English) that takes place in that city of the United Arab Emirates, where Noboa will be until Thursday.
The Ecuadorian Government indicated that the presidents talked about mechanisms to “strengthen trade and investment between both countries” and about opportunities for economic cooperationinterest in strategic projects, joint tourism promotion initiatives and coordinated work on issues of regional security and defense of democracy.
In this context “they agreed on the importance of strengthening the advance of commercial exchangesthe productive chain, investments and economic reactivation through an agreement that promotes employment and competitiveness in the nations,” added the Presidency.
Other negotiations
In 2023, under the presidency of Guillermo LassoEcuador and the Dominican Republic had already decided to undertake negotiations with the aim of reaching a trade agreement of “partial scope“, the most basic of trade agreements between countries, which involves general understandings on tariff matters and on a basic basket of goods in the commercial offer of each of the parties.
This Wednesday, Noboa also held a meeting with the president of Estonia, Alar Kariswith whom he discussed initiatives to strengthen the circular migration toward Europe.
The Ecuadorian president also expressed the interest that the Government has in “knowing Estonia’s experience in cybersecurity and digital services insurance, through initiatives trainingexchange of good practices and education and training opportunities,” said the Presidency.
In addition, Noboa participated in the WGS forum called ‘The next chapter of Latin America: What comes next?’, along with Abinader and the president of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, in which he assured that his Government’s roadmap is focused on promoting alliances that boost investment, employment and growth.
- Likewise, he stressed the importance of working together to face the racketeering transnational and multilateralismwhich, he said, contributes to returning peace to citizens.
