Ecuador and Colombia simplify control of goods at the border

The verification will be carried out only on one side of the border; in addition, the change of crews to cross to the other side is cancelled.

BOGOTA. The authorities of Colombia and Ecuador they agreed on a new migration control protocol set for drivers of international freight transport vehicles with the intention of facilitating mobility in the border between both countries.

The measure, which is already working, could benefit nearly 200 crew and drivers international freight transport per day in the border area between Colombia and Ecuadorreported the government agency Migration Colombia.

The drivers and crew can carry out the process of immigration control at one of the border posts, either in Colombia or in Ecuador, delivering the corresponding form to the authorities, who in turn will be in charge of carrying out the corresponding verification and upload it to the system, to be shared with the counterparts of the neighboring country.

That is, the carriers they will not be obliged to conventional immigration control but they must identify themselves with the Land Crew Book.

Likewise, for an exceptional period of 90 days, the National Identity Document (DNI) or the passport will also be accepted as valid documents.

Colombia and Ecuador they share a Land border of 586 kilometers that was reopened at the end of last year after being closed in March 2020 with the declaration of a state of emergency due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In September 2021 they opened it to the passage of goods through a special transshipment protocol and the new protocol establishes that it will not be necessary to change the crew of cargo vehicles on the border line as it had been doing to date. EFE
