From now on, the documents issued by both countries will contain the same information and can be read with a QR code.

The governments of Colombia and Ecuador approved this Friday (December 17, 2021) the vaccination certificates against Covid-19, which will allow better mobility after the Rumichaca bridge was opened, the main passage between the two countries, which was closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The measure, which began to take effect this Friday, was announced by the Ministers of Health of Ecuador, Ximena Garzón, and Colombia, Fernando Ruiz, during the X Binational Cabinet held in Cartagena de Indias and which was headed by Presidents Iván Duque and Guillermo Lasso.

The certificates, which can be read with a QR code on any mobile device, will have basic information on citizens such as the name and surname of the carrier, the doses of vaccines that have been applied and the laboratories where the sera come from.

The ministers highlighted that the homologation of that document, valid in both countries, will speed up the transit of people, especially those who pass through the border.

It will also facilitate tourism and trade, contributing to the recovery of economies hit by the coronavirus pandemic.

“We have made the decision to homologate our two vaccination certificates, that of Ecuador and Colombia and in that sense it is important that the people who live on the borders of our two countries know and recognize the certificate that is delivered in the other country, ”said Minister Ruiz.
