Fracking is one of the most relevant issues in the government Petrothis being the center of debate in different sectors, because as indicated in his campaign proposals the president Gustavo Petro will ban this practice in the country.
For this reason, Ecopetrol announced that it will suspend fracking contracts for 90 days, this was revealed by the international agency Reuters. The oil company notified the National Environmental Licensing Agency (ANLA) that the decision was made to stop the activities that were being carried out in Santander to give space until their future was determined.

The two projects that are being carried out in Santander have been strongly criticized by the community and environmental groups that support the current government’s decision to restrict oil exploration in the country.
“Last Friday we asked the (National Hydrocarbons Agency) to temporarily suspend the Kale and Platero contracts for a period of 90 days,” a company spokesperson told Reuters.
So far no information is known about Anla’s response, however, those who defend this practice indicate that the development of non-conventional energy deposits is essential for the country’s economic development and energy self-sufficiency.
