In 2022, the economy Peruvian would have grown less than 2.9%, said the manager of Economic Studies of the Central Reserve Bank (BCR), Adrián Armas. With this result, the BCR goal for that year (2.9%) would not have been met.
The representative of the issuing entity stated that it is still premature to analyze the impact of social conflicts on GDP because it remains to be seen how long the crisis will last.
However, he considered that if the crisis and the blockades cease soon, it would give the economy space to recover in the rest of the year. Otherwise, Adrián Armas specified that it will be “very difficult for companies to be able to recover production.”
Despite the fact that they are still not sure what the conflict would mean for the country’s economic activity, Adrián Armas announced that around US$600 million will be lost in the first semester due to the lower inflow of international tourists.
